Install the Matcha Flavored datapack without the half-working world

Use the correct game, file, and world

The Matcha Flavored datapack currently targets Minecraft Java Edition 26.2, with an older project version available for 26.1.2. It is not a Fabric mod, a Forge mod, or a Bedrock add-on. Download the current release from the creator's Modrinth versions page and keep the zip compressed. Do not extract and repackage it for a normal installation. The file contains both data-pack definitions and resource-pack assets, which is why installing it in only one location creates a world that looks or behaves only partly correct.

A new world is the safest place to start. Matcha Flavoured shuffles items and changes progression, so adding it to an established world can leave existing items in unexpected states. If you choose an existing world, back up the save before touching its datapacks folder. The creator also warns that the Modrinth app does not currently load this pack correctly. Treat the Matcha Flavored datapack as a manual installation even if you normally manage Minecraft through a launcher.

Add the data-pack copy during world creation

Create a new Java world and open the More or Data Packs area before generating it. Choose Open Pack Folder, then move the untouched Matcha Flavored datapack zip into that temporary datapacks folder. Return to Minecraft and move Matcha Flavoured from Available to Selected if the interface asks. Accept the compatibility prompt only when you have confirmed that the file release matches the game version. Finish creating the world, but do not assume this one step completes the installation.

When the world opens, the data portion controls mechanics, recipes, advancements, loot, and progression. A successful load should produce a chat message similar to “Matcha Flavoured is now loaded.” That message is the first checkpoint, not the final checkpoint. If it does not appear, close the world and inspect the save's datapacks folder. The zip should sit directly inside that folder, not inside an extra directory created by extracting or nesting the download.

Add the second copy as a resource pack

Copy the exact same Matcha Flavored datapack zip into Minecraft's global resourcepacks folder. Open Options, then Resource Packs, find Matcha Flavoured under Available, and move it into Selected. Apply the change and allow resources to reload. This second copy supplies names, models, textures, sounds, and the visual language used by the pack. Without it, mechanics may run while tutorial icons, food, tools, or renamed blocks appear wrong or display vanilla placeholders.

The two copies are not duplicate installations by mistake. One belongs to a specific world and is evaluated as data; the other belongs to the client and is evaluated as resources. Keep both on the same release. Mixing the data portion from 1.03 with the resources from 1.0 can produce confusing symptoms that resemble a code bug. Whenever you update the Matcha Flavored datapack, replace both copies together after backing up the world.

Install into an existing save carefully

From the Singleplayer world list, select the save, choose Edit, and open its world folder. Enter the datapacks directory and place the Matcha Flavored datapack zip there. Add the second copy to the global resourcepacks folder as described above, then activate it in Options. Load the save and watch chat for the confirmation message. If commands are available, `/reload` can re-run pack loading, although leaving and re-entering the world may still be useful after the first setup.

Existing worlds carry more uncertainty because Matcha Flavoured changes items and progression assumptions. Create a dated backup before installation and keep cheats available if you are comfortable using them to repair edge cases. Test the inventory, advancements, recipe book, health behavior, and a few renamed items before committing to the converted save. A successful Matcha Flavored datapack install means data and visuals agree; a single green texture is not sufficient proof.

Run a three-part installation check

First, confirm the chat load message. Second, open Resource Packs and confirm Matcha Flavoured is Selected. Third, inspect the advancements and early recipes rather than relying on Creative inventory, because custom data-pack items do not necessarily behave like modded registry entries. Make a campfire, check the tutorial advancement tree, and observe whether the expected early progression differs from vanilla. These tests examine data, resources, and actual behavior separately.

If only textures work, the world-specific data copy is missing or inactive. If only mechanics work, the resource-pack copy is missing, unselected, or mismatched. If neither works, confirm Java 26.2, the current release, the direct folder location, and the untouched zip structure.
